The Hull and East Riding Mumbler held its first Family Awards this year and the general public were encouraged to nominate their favourite things to do with children in the local area across eight categories. The top five most nominated in each category were then taken forward as finalists and the public then voted again for the winners.
Voting took place in January and February this year and results were due to be announced at an awards ceremony on March 20, but this had to be cancelled due to Covid-19 so the results were announced online instead. More than 16,000 votes were cast in total.
Organisers say the awards have given a great boost to the local businesses and organisations who made the finals, as many are still closed due to the pandemic or struggling to stay in business.

The Hull and East Riding Mumbler is a website set up by local parent Rachael Smith five years ago, to list and share all things to do with children across the area. She wanted to recognise and celebrate the fantastic things for families that we have here in East Yorkshire.
Rachael said:“Five years ago I had a newborn baby and a three-year-old and no idea what there was to do in the area with them. Through building and running the Hull and East Riding Mumbler I have been surprised and delighted by how many incredible activities, classes, attractions and events we have locally for families.
“I wanted to give them all the recognition they deserved. The first ever Hull and East Riding Mumbler Awards celebrate the businesses that wouldn’t usually appear on a local business awards platform. All of the nominees and finalists do a fantastic job providing things to do and places to go for families in East Yorkshire and it has been a real boost to celebrate them all, especially during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic when a lot of them are still closed. Congratulations to all the winners!”
