A leader in IT and cybersecurity from Newcastle has been recognised on a national stage.

Ruth Humpherson, of international life science consultancy ramarketing, has won the Next CSO Award at the 2024 CSO Awards UK for her innovative contributions to cybersecurity and IT operations.

The award highlights Ruth’s success in strengthening ramarketing’s cybersecurity while cultivating a workplace culture that prioritises inclusivity and collaboration.

Emma Banks, ramarketing’s CEO, said: “Ruth’s exceptional leadership in cybersecurity has been transformative for ramarketing. Her forward-thinking approach has not only enhanced our security but also created a culture of engagement and awareness across the company.

“Ruth’s commitment to diversity, inclusion and ethical AI practices reflects the values we hold as a business. She is an invaluable part of our team.”

During her two years with ramarketing, Ruth has introduced a comprehensive IT framework designed to meet modern security challenges while supporting team development. Initiatives such as mentorship programmes and her advocacy for neurodiversity and LGBTQ+ inclusion demonstrate her commitment to a workplace where everyone feels empowered to contribute.

Ruth has also played a key role in developing AI governance, ensuring the company adopts secure, ethical practices as it embraces emerging technologies. Her leadership in this area has reinforced ramarketing’s reputation as a trailblazer in ethical AI adoption.

Ruth, who is based in ramarketing’s Newcastle office, said: “I’m honoured to receive this recognition, but it’s a testament to the incredible team and collaborative spirit at ramarketing. Cybersecurity is as much about people as it is about technology, and I’m proud to work in an environment that values innovation and inclusivity.”

In addition to her technical achievements, Ruth is a passionate advocate for mental health and wellbeing. As a mental health first aider, she has introduced practices that prioritise stress management and team resilience, helping to create a supportive and sustainable workplace.
