Sintons’ construction and engineering legal team grows, with multiple appointments in 2024

03rd Nov

A North East team of construction and engineering legal specialists continues to grow, with multiple appointments and promotions so far in 2024.

Law firm Sintons has recently appointed senior associate Sara Morgan, who joined the team in June with more than 16 years of specialist experience to focus on non-contentious and transactional work.

Sara joins head of department Alex Rayner, partner Graeme Ritzema, Jay Balmer – who has recently been promoted to associate, and newly qualified solicitor Lucy Milnthorp, who joined the team in September having completed her two year training contract at Sintons.

Together, the team supports organisations and businesses nationally across the construction and engineering sector including the UK’s leading food-on-the-go retailer Greggs, London-based contractor Jerram Falkus Construction, regional contractor Meldrum Group and the trustees for Methodist Church Purposes.

Alex Rayner said: “The strength and depth of knowledge we have within the team at all levels means that we have the expertise to support our clients with any aspect of their projects, and this is reflected in the calibre of work and clients that continue to instruct us.

“Our clients stay with us for the long term because of the relationships we have built with them. We like to get to know and understand their business so that we can provide the most commercially focussed advice possible and they know every one of us, from trainees through to partners, is committed to getting the best possible results for them.”

Recently the team has advised Greggs on its national programme of expansion, refurbishment and construction of food production and warehousing facilities and distribution centres, including the construction contracts for its new state of the art frozen manufacturing and logistics facility on a 23 acre plot at SmartParc SEGRO in Spondon, Derby.

The team has also advised the trustees for Methodist Church Purposes and the Methodist Council in connection with the redevelopment and refurbishment of its headquarters at Tavistock Place, London.

Other recent work includes providing legal support and advice to long-standing client Jerram Falkus Construction in connection with the design and construction of a mixed use development in Acton, London, and supporting long-standing client, Meldrum Group, with the negotiation of the building contract for the design and construction of the refurbishment and extension of the Martin House hospice facility in Boston Spa.

Alex added: “We have ambitions to continue growing the team this year and beyond.

“We’re currently recruiting for a partner or senior associate to carry out contentious work, which will be a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to continue their career alongside a group of ambitious and dedicated colleagues. We will also continue to take the opportunity to recruit high quality candidates at all levels where possible.”

Sintons’ construction and engineering specialists regularly win praise from independent rankings such as the Legal 500, which has described the team as being “both legally and commercially focused” and having “clear solutions and strategies”.
