The Personal Finance Centre, a specialist financial broker in Hull, has announced the appointment of Mark Thundercliffe to the role of non-executive director and chairman of the board, subject to FCA approval.
Mark comes with a wealth of experience, having most recently been the group chief risk officer of Virgin Money UK, where he was responsible for the management and monitoring of significant risk across the group. He has also previously held a number of high-profile executive roles across the globe for both HSBC and Citi, among others. Mark will provide the board with the expertise and oversight in a number of areas, including risk management, compliance and corporate governance.
With Mark being from the local area, he shares a real passion with the board in driving the Personal Finance Centre towards its vision of being a successful financial hub based in Hull, with aspirations of creating a finance academy to support young local talent to build a career with the business, by giving them the opportunity and tools to succeed.
He said: “I’m very happy to come home. Hull has a special place in my heart given my family history over many generations – the academy, investing in local talent, something I feel passionately about, having started my banking career 34 years ago in Hull.”
The announcement comes on the back of a busy 12 months for the business which has involved a move to new offices, a number of key appointments at board level and the successful promotion of staff to ensure that the operational organisation best supports its people and customers.
Mark Cooke, managing director of the Personal Finance Centre, said: “Mark Thundercliffe’s appointment is a statement of our ambition, both the business strategy and continued growth of the Personal Finance Centre, as the company seeks to fulfil its vision of creating the largest UK specialist financial hub out of Hull, East Yorkshire.”
