The Start Up Support Service (SUSS) is completely free and designed for anyone who is thinking about starting up their own business, or for any start-up business that has been operating for less than a year.
The service provides:
One-to-one support from start-up advisers
Workshops covering business planning, bookkeeping and funding, sales and marketing, and business regulations
In-depth masterclasses covering various topics
Support from peers and the opportunity to network with other entrepreneurs in sounding board sessions
As part of the SUSS, a team of experienced specialist start-up business advisers in Hull, East Yorkshire and North East Lincolnshire are providing one-to-one advice and guidance. They will be able to help you discuss your business idea, help to give your business plan shape, and will be able to help you create and work through a checklist of essential actions needed before successfully starting a business.
Meanwhile, a series of workshops will cover topics to help enable start-ups to get off the ground. There will also be regular masterclasses and “sounding board” sessions, where entrepreneurs can get support from peers and network with other start-ups. All of this support will be delivered remotely given current pandemic restrictions.
The service, which has been funded by the Government Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, is available to any individual or business in the Humber region, and any sector or industry can be supported.
The main remit of the SUSS is to support pre-start individuals to explore their business idea and progress to start-up if suitable, and to also support start-ups in their first year of trading. The intention is that clients would then progress to the Growth Hub’s #GrowMySME Programme on their one-year anniversary of business trading to receive onward support to become an established business,to grow, and ultimately to scale.
Jon Brunton, Humber Growth Hub manager, said: “We’re really pleased to launch our Start Up Support Service across the Humber, providing this free service through our experienced advisers, as well as the offer of workshops, masterclasses and ‘Sounding Board’.
“Many people in our region will either be in the process of or be considering starting their own business and we want them to be as knowledgeable, confident and well-informed as possible as they take what can be quite a daunting step in starting their own businesses.
“As we have all seen, the watchword of this year so far has been ‘resilience’, particularly when it comes to business, and when starting a business for the first time, you need to have solid foundations in place to ensure resilience. We therefore urge any start-ups under a year old, anyone taking steps to launch their business, or anyone considering an idea for a start-up, to make use of this free service and help turn their entrepreneurial ambitions into a reality.”
