Launch event announced for Hull and East Yorkshire awards celebrating women in business

20th May

The launch event for the region’s biggest celebration of women in business has been announced, with free tickets now available to the public.

The biennial Women of Achievement Awards, organised by Women in Business Hull, is a unique event that celebrates the achievements of businesswomen across Hull and East Yorkshire who either run their own business, or hold a leading role in their profession, industry or charity.

The launch event on Thursday, May 30, which takes place from 6pm to 8pm at the Mercure Hotel in Willerby, is an opportunity for guests to find out more about the awards, including this year’s much-anticipated guest speaker.

The nationally recognised female will join a long line of renowned speakers who have previously attended the awards. Former guest speakers have included national treasure Gloria Hunniford, as well as comedian and mental health campaigner Ruby Wax, and writer, presenter and activist Katie Piper.

Caroline Neadley, who was announced as chairman of Women in Business Hull earlier in 2024, said of the launch: “The Women of Achievement Awards are a long-established awards ceremony that recognise the incredible talent of women in our region. Women in Business is immensely proud to have the opportunity to shine a spotlight on the inspirational contribution that they make to the business, public and charitable sectors at these prestigious awards.

“We are delighted to have secured another amazing guest speaker who will be announced at the launch, along with our chosen charity for this year’s awards.

“It has always been a hugely popular event in the business calendar with tickets often selling out in days and I am sure this year’s awards, which will take place on Friday, November 15, will be another sell-out success.”

In addition to this year’s chosen charity, guests will be able to find out more information about each award category and how to enter. The line-up of judges from across the region will also be on-hand to give an idea of what they are looking for in an award winner.

Smailes Goldie will once again be the main sponsor for the Women of Achievement Awards.

Nicki Shipley, partner at the firm, said: “As a firm of chartered accountants, tax and business advisors, with a rich history in Hull, we are proud to celebrate and support the achievements of the region’s top women in business. Through our work we see many dedicated, determined and successful women thriving in their careers and we encourage all those with an inspiring story to come forward and enter.

“It is a special year for Smailes Goldie too, as it is our 125th anniversary, so we look forward to celebrating with you all in November.”

Other sponsors and previous award winners will also be in attendance, speaking about how the awards have impacted them both personally and professionally.

Tickets for the launch are now available from Eventbrite.
