It’s no April fool… Making Tax Digital is here!

01st Apr

Making Tax Digital (MTD) means that VAT-registered businesses (those with a turnover above £85,000) will no longer be able to keep and submit manual records from April 1, 2019.
HMRC will now only accept VAT returns that have been sent using software that supports MTD. There are dozens of products on the market that are MTD-ready.
Companies that are already clients of Whitethorn and already use its VAT services don’t need to do anything further – Whitethorn’s dedicated staff will deal with any potential complications from upgrading or migrating software mid-financial year.
As for those clients who do not use Whitethorn’s VAT service, they can help you migrate across to MTD by setting up your MTD VAT services through HMRC, as well as setting up the necessary accounting or bridging software.
What is remote accountancy?
Thanks to technology, cloud accounting systems, cloud-based file sharing and so on, Whitethorn can assist your business by becoming your external accounts department. They cover communications with suppliers, to help chase supplier invoices and statements. All of this along with compliance, tax and general accounting support at your fingertips, giving you back time and value for more focus on your business.
Whitethorn’s accountants work with various types of accounting software, whether it be cloud or desktop-based. But as a Xero Certified Advisor and Silver Partner, the company believes it is simply the best cloud accounting software in the world, which is why Xero is at the heart of all of the various accountancy packages that Whitethorn offers, all of which also include VAT returns, a dedicated accountant and unlimited support.
The team
Established in 2016, Whitethorn, which is based at the One Business Village in Emily Street, Hull, aims to support ambitious and dynamic businesses, as well as investing in the technology, knowledge and skills for providing excellent remote accountancy services.
All-inclusive fees mean no surprises, cashflow-effective, simple pricing for all clients. The company takes its upkeep of tax law and FRS (Financial Reporting Standards) seriously, ensuring clients are always provided with the best advice.
Minimising tax payable by clients is a standard goal for all accountants, allowing for further business growth and reinvestment, increasing job prospects in each industry covered and much more.
The daily pressures of running a business are understood greatly by the team at Whitethorn, which is led by founder and director Chris Gay. He is joined by senior manager and accountant Derek Longden, and bookkeeper Chloe Dibb.
