Another inspiring and thriving woman in the business space of Stockton-on-Tees is Christine McKie, Managing Director of Energy Solutions at px Group.
px Group was established in 2002 and is a leading industrial asset operator and solutions provider, renowned for its expertise in managing complex energy and industrial sites in the UK and Europe. It provides pragmatic infrastructure management, ensuring that sites, assets and technology work together safely and optimally.
After reaching out to various companies in search of her first role whilst completing a degree in mathematics, Christine connected with the Chief Operating Officer at px Group who offered her a position in ICT.
Christine’s aptitude for commercial matters was recognised and she began her progression through px Group to where she is today.
“I’ve been fortunate to have had lots of opportunities to grow here,” Christine explained. “Thriving businesses benefit from a mix of skills and personalities in various roles, and gender balance is a key component of this.”
The theme for International Women’s Day this year is #AccelerateChange, calling for more businesses to take decisive steps to achieve gender equality quickly.
“I actively promote equality and diversity within my team and hope other leaders foster the same level of equality that I have experienced,” Christine told us.
“I love inspiring others and watching them flourish, whether it’s guiding young people starting their careers or motivating senior members of my management team.”
Christine feels that px Group has allowed her to evolve professionally whilst working there: “My perspective on management has definitely changed from when I first started my career.
“With a maths degree, I initially had a very factual approach to business arrangements, believing there had to be winners and losers! As I matured, I was lucky to work under great leaders who allowed me to seize opportunities. I soon realised that people and collaboration are key to business success.”
When asked what advice she would give to any other women aspiring to be leaders, Christine said, “Don’t strive for perfection – no one is perfect. True strength lies in acknowledging and accepting your own weaknesses.”
“Seize every opportunity and don’t be afraid to try something new for fear of failure. Every experience, whether a success or a setback, shapes who you are.
