The Dragonfly Cancer Trust is celebrating the successful launch of its Pound On Your Pillow initiative, which urges hotel guests to pop a pound in an envelope on their pillow following their hotel stay.
The first hotel to sign up was the DoubleTree by Hilton next to Newcastle International Airport, and its team has raised more than £2,000 to date.
The Dragonfly Cancer Trust works with families, hospitals and hospices across the UK supporting palliative cancer patients from birth to 25 years old. The focus of the Dragonfly Cancer Trust is on memory making and helping young patients to make each moment matter with their loved ones and this is done by providing cash gifts, keepsakes and creative therapy.
As the festive season gets into full swing, the trust is urging other hotels to back the initiative to help make dreams come true.
Jane Dennison, CEO of the Dragonfly Cancer Trust, said: “We are so delighted with the amount raised from the DoubleTree by Hilton Newcastle International Airport. The team are so supportive of our charity through a host of fundraisers, and we really appreciate their vital support.
“The initiative is such a lovely thing to do and involves very little staff involvement – all they need to do is pop the envelope on the pillow and collect it the next day. We can also claim Gift Aid on the donations. We would be delighted to see other hotels back the initiative, especially over the festive period – the hotels will quite literally be making dreams come true for our young people.”
The trust recently held its 10th annual Dragonfly Ball, which raised more than £25,000, predominantly from the generosity of the business community and key partners. The trust is keen to continue to forge links with the B2B community to further develop and grow the charity, which operates on a regional and national scale.
Vikki Russell, sales office manager at DoubleTree by Hilton Newcastle International Airport, said: “We are thrilled to be supporting the Dragonfly Cancer Trust on its Pound On Your Pillow initiative. The charity does such fantastic work for young patients receiving palliative cancer care and when we heard about the new hotel initiative, we knew we had to help in any way that we could. Our fundraisers have been brilliant and we hope that the money raised will make a real difference to families this Christmas.”
The team at the Dragonfly Cancer Trust works collaboratively with every youth oncology unit throughout the country and collaborates with hospices across the UK, together providing the best possible support for young palliative patients in the UK.
