Designs sponsors GB triathlete

18th Apr

Martin Oliver, who also works at Designs as an applications team leader, has qualified for the championships and will be travelling to Switzerland in August to represent his country in the multi-discipline sport.
The championships, which consist of three continuous endurance races, sees triathletes swim, cycle and run their way to the finish line. Qualifying for the sprint distance event, Martin will be swimming 750m, before biking 20k and completing a 5k run across the Lausanne countryside.
The World Age Group Triathlon Championships give Home Nation members a unique opportunity to compete at international level in triathlon, representing Great Britain as they compete against countries across the world.
In order to qualify for the event, athletes must take part in at least one of three specific qualification races. Places will be offered automatically to the four highest placed athletes. Any athletes finishing outside the automatic places but inside 115% of the winner of their age-group may still be able to qualify with a roll down place. Each roll-down place will be offered to the athlete ranked with the lowest percentage across all three qualifiers.
The sponsorship money provided by Designs will go towards the necessary fees associated with championship entry, as well as help with travel to and from the event. This means that Martin can focus solely on his training and being at the top of his game on the day.
After watching triathlon events on the television, Martin joined his local triathlon club, Humber Triathletes. Though he was already interested in fitness, it was the Humber Triathletes that gave Martin the training and inspiration needed for him to enter the GB qualifiers.
However, taking part in the World Age Group Triathlon Championships takes dedication, with Martin training six days a week whilst still working full-time at Designs.
Martin said: “Training can be hard to fit in around full-time work and looking after my two daughters, but I manage to find time for workouts in the evenings and spend time training for longer distances on a weekend.
“Luckily the team at Designs are really supportive and always do what they can to help with my training and competitions.”
At Designs Martin is in control of vehicle graphic applications, which include emergency vehicles like police cars and ambulances, as well as van livery and other various vehicle branding jobs.
Rob Daysley, managing director at Designs, said: “We’re all very proud of Martin here at Designs. Competing in a triathlon means you need to be disciplined in three sports rather than just one, and we applaud Martin for making it all the way to the World Age Group Championships.
“Sponsoring him was the least we could we do, and as a member of our team we see the hard work he puts in day after day. We’ll definitely all be cheering for him on race day!”
Supporting the local community is a key priority for Designs, and this sponsorship is one of many initiatives that has seen the company work with others for a good cause. Throughout the year Designs make sure to donate to charities close to their heart, and work with organisations that help those less fortunate.
As one of the UK’s leading signage and vehicle branding companies, Designs work across a wide range of sectors, with major clients including Premier League and European football clubs. As experts in wrapping, the business employs more than 35 people, and work on projects in industries including retail, education, commercial and property development.
