Covid-19 test centre established at Humberside Airport

16th Feb

Humberside Airport has engaged a Hull-based healthcare business to establish a Covid-19 testing centre in the regional airport’s main terminal.

Latus Health will offer PCR laboratory testing and rapid lateral flow test appointments at Humberside, which is a key gateway for business travel from the east of England to the global hub of Schiphol, Netherlands.

Humberside has continued to operate throughout the pandemic as a key location for medical equipment supply flights, offshore energy sector transportation, military training, and regional connectivity flights, alongside HM Coastguard’s search and rescue base located within the airport.

Following the introduction of additional quarantine measures for international travellers, announced last week by the Health Secretary Matt Hancock, the creation of the Humberside test centre provides a significant benefit to local people, who previously had to travel as far as Leeds to obtain a Government-approved test.

The airport test facility is due to open from February 15, providing PCR and rapid antigen lateral flow tests, which are currently mandatory for travel to the Netherlands – where regulations require a negative Covid-19 test certificate must be issued within four hours of departure.

Jack Latus, managing director at Latus Health, which also operates Covid-19 testing at the port of Hull, said: “Our facility at Humberside Airport provides a crucial resource for passengers and airport staff, and the wider region. As a local business, it is fantastic to be involved in such a vital project to help support our area. Throughout the pandemic, we have helped to keep businesses safe throughout the UK.

“Humberside Airport plays a pivotal role in our regional economy. Essential travel needs our support and our team is keen to play its part, by ensuring this is facilitated safely and smoothly. We will provide Fit-to-Travel testing and Test to Release not only for Humberside Airport customers but for anyone needing a Covid-19 test for travel, which is a massive step forward for the area.”

Deborah Zost, managing director of Humberside International Airport, said: “Alongside the Government’s vaccination programme, testing is one of the most effective tools in preventing the spread of coronavirus.  The test service provided by Latus Health is essential to maintaining the safety of our passengers, airport staff and our business partners, and we are pleased to welcome their team to the terminal.”
