Businessman to take on 30-mile challenge for Hull & East Yorkshire Children’s University

09th May

The owner of a Hull-based marketing agency has set himself the challenge of walking 30 miles on June 30 in a bid to raise funds for Hull & East Yorkshire Children’s University.

Matt Johnson, director of Different Resonance, was shocked to learn that there were children living in Hull who had never seen the Humber Bridge, and that there were children in Bridlington who had never had a day at the beach. Hull & East Yorkshire Children’s University provides experiences for children like this to help raise their aspirations.

With the help of the Children’s University, Matt has previously donated tickets to a Hull City match along with his father. Following this link, the marketing agency owner decided to do something bigger, so the idea of walking 30 miles was born, with the aim of raising £2,000.

Following conversations with the charity, he decided on this figure as it would pay for a class of 30 Hull schoolchildren to be taken on a local experience – making it 30 miles on June 30 for 30 children.

The walk will start at Matt’s home in Brough, heading through local villages before following the Humber into the city centre. Stopping to refuel at Different Resonance’s base in C4DI, he will then make his way through the city up to the MKM Stadium before travelling along the Avenues to the University of Hull.

After another quick break, Matt will continue towards Cottingham and then on to Kirk Ella and West Ella before heading back to his home through North Ferriby and Welton. The route, totalling just over 30 miles, is expected to take about 10 hours to complete.

Matt said: “I’m lucky enough to have benefited from some great opportunities and experiences in Hull. Hull & East Yorkshire Children’s University does some incredible work to make sure all kids get similar opportunities and I want to support that.”

Different Resonance has created a JustGiving page to manage the fundraising and also provide updates on Matt’s training walks. If you’d like to support the walk, you can follow his progress and donate by following this link:
