Leading law firm Rollits has held a week of wellbeing as it continues to invest in its staff development.
From April 29 to May 3, staff were invited to attend daily sessions designed to incorporate various wellness elements, from nutrition and fitness to positive thinking and improved financial health.
The week was underpinned by the firm’s ambition to nurture and support its 95 staff, with people at both its Hull and York offices invited to gain a greater understanding and overall awareness for their wellbeing, including social, physical, emotional, financial, career, community and environmental.
Ralph Gilbert, managing partner at Rollits, said: “Good health and wellbeing, in terms of both physical and mental health, is crucially important to our lives in general and our work. As a firm, we recognise this and the invaluable role we can play as an employer to support our staff. We want Rollits to be a healthy workplace where everyone feels valued and supported and for the culture in the firm to be one where we can all talk openly and safely about our mental health and wellbeing.
“It is incredibly important that staff feel that they can access support to help improve their wellbeing and that they recognise that we are a firm that strives to ensure everyone is well at work and well because of their work. Wellbeing Week has been a great time for us to come together to think about how we can address the causes of work-related stress alongside finding advice and support on managing stress in our daily lives.”
The week came at a time of further growth for the firm, as it announced the recent promotions of three members of its team who all began their career at Rollits as trainees.
Mr Gilbert added: “We are extremely proud to have a high staff retention level, with many of our trainees progressing through the firm to senior positions. Wellbeing Week is just a small way that we can continue to nurture our staff and to show them that they are valued and supported.”
Activities in Hull included sessions with celebrity nutritionist Juliet O’Sullivan from Life and Fork, financial wellbeing advice from Informed Financial Planning and positive-thinking expert Rachael Alexander. Staff also learned how to survive a sitting day in a session with back health expert Jackie Cowie from Back to Chiropractic.
Activities in York included sessions with holistic health, nutrition and lifestyle coaches Life Without Limits, physical and mental wellbeing advice from Anytime Fitness and My Yoga Journey, a financial wellbeing workshop with Aurum Gold and wellbeing at work specialist Michelle Mook from Pro Development.
To celebrate the Tour de Yorkshire, staff, clients, family and friends took part in fundraising Bikeathon to raise money for the firm’s nominated charity partners, Dan Kitching 35 Foundation in Hull and IDAS in York. Doing 15 minutes stints on an exercise bike, the Team Rollits cycled the equivalent distance of the Tour de Yorkshire.
Jill Klein, a secretary in the company and commercial department, said: “We’ve not only learned some important tips this week but also been reminded of the impact looking after our health and wellbeing has, not only on our work, but our lives as a whole. A lot of the time we’re already aware of this but life gets busy and you don’t prioritise it. I’m grateful that as a firm, Rollits appreciates the importance of employee wellbeing. The Bikeathon was a fun and interactive way for us to end our Wellbeing Week and celebrate the Yorkshire bike race, doing something good for both our health, wellbeing at work and our nominated charities.”
