An Appointment With… Sarah Pretty

Nottingham born and bred, Sarah began her career in sales and events five years ago after graduating from Loughborough University. Even before completing her degree, she grasped the opportunity for a creative business venture, setting up a theatre company in association with Loughborough University’s English and drama department.
Its performances encouraged culture within the town, improved the student curriculum and built relations with Love Loughborough and Charnwood Borough Council. Sarah’s projects with En&D Theatre Company included open-air productions in Queens Park as part of a scheme to reinvigorate a celebration of the arts among the residents.
Sarah’s professional journey began in hotels and inspired her move up north where she completed a graduate management scheme in general hotel operations at the Principal York. Volunteering for extracurricular tasks throughout the training enabled Sarah to become a graduate mentor and brand guru. She organised fundraising events for the hotel, acting as chairman of the charity committee, and conducted induction training for new starters in York.
Sarah was then offered an exciting opportunity in London to support and train the reservations team with the reopening of Principal London following a £90 million refurbishment. Once completing her role as graduate manager, Sarah became social sales executive for Principal York and successfully launched its summer season of outdoor cinema screenings.
Her time in hospitality came to an end when she accepted the role of sales manager for Revolution Bars Group. Her proactive work for the York site resulted in its highest-grossing Christmas and she thrived in her role with social media and marketing.
In May 2019, she took on the role of events sales manager for Gino D’Acampo My Restaurant Hull. “This opportunity came at an incredibly exciting time for both me and the company.” says Sarah. “For me, I have taken another big step in my career. For the brand, their continued expansion and blossoming sales team provides ample opportunity to pioneer strategies for success.”
Supporting the sites in Hull, Harrogate and Leeds, Sarah has been hopping all over the country working closely with the team at Gino’s and Club Individual to promote the restaurants and the membership scheme. “I’m very proactive with my work, I thrive on meeting people, getting creative with social media and planning unique events.” Sarah says.
“I am bursting with ideas and the team at Gino’s fully embrace that. It is clear to see Gino himself truly cares about his product and the guest experience. This passion shines through the quality and consistency in all his restaurants. You can even meet the man himself and enjoy the VIP dining experience during one of his Gino nights – what other celebrity chef goes above and beyond like that?”
Sarah plans to host a variety of events at the restaurant on Kingswood Retail Park, including prosecco and cocktail masterclasses, pizza-making parties, wine tastings, ladies’ lunches, baby brunches and make-up masterclasses in collaboration with Charlotte Tilbury. “We want to provide a unique experience for our guests, making memories, not just meals,” says Sarah.
As a sales force, the Gino’s brand is working on “seven ways to spend seven days”. With this marketing template it can offer special promotions every day of the week, including Organic Wine Wednesdays, Cocktail Club Thursdays and Family Sundays. “I am eager to host corporate events as well as social ones,” says Sarah. “I think my business building lunches will be a fantastic opportunity to grow my network here in Hull and provide a platform for local businesses to showcase their companies.”
Customer care and loyalty is a team priority at the restaurant in Hull. “Our regulars are treated like family here!” says Sarah. “It’s lovely to see them greeted with hugs and kisses in true Italian style by all of the staff. Building good relationships with our guests is important to us. We want to recognise you when you walk in and have your favourite glass of wine waiting at the bar!”
