Meet the team
Helen is very passionate about everything she does and thrives on a challenge. She focuses on providing excellent customer service and going that extra mile for her clients. Her experience in publishing, media and working on events spans more than 37 years and she still believes you’re never too old to learn. Her journey has taken her from working at NCJ in Newcastle in 1982 to BE Group in 2016. After being made redundant in March 2018, she decided to take up the challenge and set up her own business and, with the help of her amazing team (she openly admits she’d be lost without them), BusinessWorks is gaining an excellent reputation as one of the leading business-to-business magazines covering Hull, East Yorkshire and the Humber.
Helen is an enthusiastic and passionate person, with more than 30 years of experience working within publishing across, press, radio and digital. Driven by results, Helen prides herself on her consultative approach by providing marketing solutions in order to match client objectives, while delivering outstanding customer service.
In her spare time you can find Helen having fun with her grandson. She also enjoys time in her garden nurturing her vegetables, while enjoying a nice chilled glass of wine.
Craig is a born designer and wannabe footballer. He still gets a buzz from creating something special, something that stands out from the crowd, whether that be the cassette covers he designed when he was young(er), or the vast number of pages created for magazines and event programmes in more recent years. He started his career in publishing over 20 years ago with Gazette Media Company in Middlesbrough, where he worked on its main titles and magazines. He has worked in the business-to-consumer and business-to-business magazine sector for the past five years and has seen his work recognised at national award level. Craig has also been responsible for designing the identity of a number of national events including the National Entrepreneur Festival, Scottish Export Awards and MADE Festival.
Sam started her career more than 20 years ago on the Hull Daily Mail after spotting an ad for trainee sub-editors in… the Hull Daily Mail. Had she not done this, she’d probably still be drifting around the University of Hull, where she studied English and then stayed on to do an MA in an attempt to stave off getting a proper job. Following various roles at the Press Association in Howden (where she still works as a part-time sub on the Daily Telegraph), she somehow ended up editing, and then owning, the world’s oldest naturist magazine, H&E (which people of a certain vintage may remember as Health & Efficiency). Yes, that’s naked people, not birds and bees. She continues to publish the magazine under her own company.
Leo Francis is a dad, a runner, a BBQer, a snowboarder and most importantly for us he is an award winning photographer. He has been mastering his craft for over 10 years and has a client list including Red Bull, Ikea, Volvo Ocean Race and World Rally Championship.
He’s best known in Hull for his exhibition at the Humber Street Gallery for Hull City of Culture 2017. He has made a name for himself in the photography world with his dynamic sports images, creative portraits and approaching each and every project he’s involved in with a fresh perspective and innovative approach.
Steve is deadline-driven – when you work with him you will soon know this – and has a knack for problem-solving. He is also a fan of a bold shirt. He has worked in media since the age of 18 and now has more than 20 (say that quietly) years’ experience specialising in pre-press and project management. He started his career with ncjMedia, working on its daily titles and then progressing into special publications and magazines. He has worked in the production of business-to-business publications for the past seven years. Alongside the production of magazines, he has also been responsible for overseeing the delivery of large-format print and digital assets of a number of national events including the Scottish Business Awards, the National Entrepreneur Festival and the Export Awards.
