BDN and Fitz announce collaborative vision for future growth

29th May

Two established North East firms have announced a new phase in their partnership, aimed at delivering strategic growth and a fully integrated service across the architecture and engineering sectors.

Building Design Northern (BDN), known for its innovative projects in both modern and historic settings, will formally bring Fitz Architects under its umbrella over the coming months. The move follows a period of sustained success for both companies, with multiple new projects in the pipeline across the UK.

Fitz will continue to operate under its own name, maintaining its reputation for creative design and client service. The collaboration is intended to create a specialist offering that sits alongside BDN’s existing luxury residential arm, while offering clients across both companies access to a streamlined, multi-disciplinary service.

The integrated approach will provide commercial, industrial and residential clients with the full package – from initial design and planning through to structural and civil engineering, and project management. The aim is to deliver added value and efficiency, with the convenience of dealing with a single team throughout the project’s lifespan.

BDN managing director Richard Marsden said: “We acquired Fitz Architects in 2023 as part of a strategic move to strengthen our architectural design services and delivery capability. Since that time, both companies have continued to grow and develop a clear niche within the UK’s built environment sector.

“Rather than continuing to operate separately, it now makes strategic sense to bring BDN and Fitz together in a way that offers clients a seamless experience, with every aspect of a project expertly delivered under one roof. We have the very best professionals in their field, and regardless of project type, all will be managed collaboratively from start to finish.

“This approach is still relatively rare outside larger national firms, so we’re pleased to be doing things differently. Feedback has been extremely positive and we have many more exciting projects under way.”

BDN has delivered a wide range of residential, commercial, and community-focused schemes, including the Sheepfolds Stables development, B\&Q’s new Galashiels superstore, the St Cuthberts Close supported-living scheme, and Super Brad’s Pad respite facility.

Fitz Architects, meanwhile, has built a strong reputation for bold, visionary homes for private residential clients across the North East and beyond.
