Newcastle couple launch second branch of popular restaurant

A popular Newcastle city centre restaurant selling authentic Chinese street food is expanding into Jesmond with the launch of a second eatery.

Qian Liu and her husband Lin Shao met while studying at university in Newcastle more than 20 years ago and opened the Little Dumpling House in Ridley Place, Newcastle city centre, in 2019.

Their new outlet in Brentwood Avenue, Jesmond, has created three jobs.

Qian Liu explained: “My husband and I both arrived in Newcastle in 2002 and we love it here.

“We now live in Jesmond with our two children and wanted to open a business here, close to our home. We hope to open more branches in Newcastle and North Tyneside in the near future as well.”

Qian Liu and Lin Shao were supported by Sarah Smith, partner and head of licensing at Sintons law firm, who helped them secure the licence for the new premises.

Sarah said: “The Little Dumpling House is a simple concept which has shown to be hugely successful in Newcastle and is clearly set to grow in 2024.

“We helped secure the licence for the original Newcastle city centre branch back in 2019 and I hope we’ll be able to continue to support the business as it grows.”

The Little Dumpling House in Jesmond seats 25 people and specialises in steamed dumplings.
