KCS pair to embark on epic walk for One Punch Hull

15th May

Two staff from Hull-based Kingston Cleaning Services are to embark on a walk from Newcastle to Hull to support the charity One Punch Hull.

On Wednesday, May 22, operations director Jamie Webb and window cleaning supervisor Shaun Price will undertake the challenge – and it is particularly meaningful to Shaun, who was himself a victim of a one-punch attack four years ago during a Christmas night out.

The assault left him with multiple facial fractures and no one to turn to except close family and friends, highlighting the difficulty that many victims face in seeking support.

One Punch Hull was founded by Steve and Debbie Akester, who tragically lost their son Scott to a one-punch attack in November 2022.

The charity aims to raise awareness about the risks and devastating impacts of such attacks. They focus on educating and supporting victims, speaking at schools, colleges, construction companies and offices.

Recently, they opened a support hub at the Hull Kingston Rovers’ stadium, Sewell Group Craven Park, providing a safe space for victims like Shaun to discuss their experiences and receive support.

Jamie and Shaun’s walk will cover the following stages:

  • Newcastle to Peterlee: 22 miles
  • Peterlee to Stokesley: 26 miles
  • Stokesley to Pickering: 26 miles
  • Pickering to Driffield: 25 miles
  • Driffield to Hull: 20 miles

The pair are seeking donations and support from companies for essentials and stopovers along their journey. Despite the tough economic climate, any contribution would greatly benefit One Punch Hull.

Donations can be made through the following link: gofund.me/78256f93

Anyone interested in joining the walk at any stage is welcome and can contact Jamie directly for more details. The more participants, the better the awareness spread for this crucial cause.
